Palliative care is a specialized health field to care for patients with a serious illness, improving quality of life for both the patient and their family. Communication skills are key to quality palliative care; however, it can be difficult for patients to share their thoughts and needs. In this session, nurse practitioners (NPs) will learn how to orchestrate thoughtful conversations with patients and their families so that the patient’s values and wishes can be communicated and respected. NPs will leave this session with verbal roadmaps and techniques for attending to emotions so that they can feel more confident in providing care that aligns with the patient’s priorities.
A few topics in this CE session include:
- Types of communication
