This presentation considers the impact of alcohol and substance withdrawal syndrome on the hospitalized patient. Patients experiencing substance withdrawal pose a clinical challenge due to variations in the severity of withdrawal findings that can complicate patients’ clinical outcomes. The goal of this presentation is to expand your knowledge of evidence-based strategies for the pharmacologic treatment of patients with alcohol withdrawal syndrome. The presentation also discusses risk factors for intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Alternative and contraindicated agents in the management of withdrawal symptoms in the hospitalized patient will also be examined.
