This CE offering is ideal for the nurse practitioner seeking a detailed refresher on the advanced introductory principles of pharmacology and prescribing medications. Use it to keep your medication fundamentals up-to-date. The session begins by presenting indispensable, respected resources regarding drug information and clinical practice guidelines. It also recommends best practices for literature retrieval via search engines and electronic sources. It then provides a detailed discussion of key pharmacological topics that will augment both the nurse practitioner’s background knowledge and his or her ability to proceed with informed confidence while prescribing and recommending medications. This offering contains a thorough discussion of the following topics:
  • History of drug regulation
  • Stages of drug development and approval
  • Understanding drug names
  • Federal drug classification and schedules
  • Prescription writing
  • Phases of drug action
  • Pharmacodynamics
  • Practical principles of pharmacology

How it Works

  1. Log in at www.NPcourses.com
  2. Go to My Account in the upper right corner and click on Courses.
  3. Locate your Course in the list and click on it.
  4. Click on Access Course to proceed.
  5. PowerPoint handouts are available for every lecture under “Materials.” We strongly recommend that you download and print each lecture’s handout so that you may highlight and take notes as you view each video.
  6. Please note that there is information covered in the video lectures that will not be on the handouts, so you must watch the video in its entirety. It is very important to spend time studying all PowerPoint handouts and to watch all course lecture(s) before attempting to take the required quiz.
  7. Each quiz includes 5 items to complete in 10 minutes. Participants have a maximum of 3 attempts to pass each exam with a score of 70% or higher.
  8. After successful completion of the quiz, participants must complete a Course Evaluation.
  9. Upon submission of the Course Evaluation, your Continuing Education Certificate will appear for you to print and/or save in PDF format. We strongly recommend that you print or save the certificate immediately, as your certificate will not be stored in your account indefinitely.

Refunds are not allowed on any of Barkley & Associates’ products.
